Rochester New York Mesothelioma Attorneys > About Mesothelioma > Informing Your Doctor
The symptoms of mesothelioma are similar to those of several other conditions, making diagnosis difficult. Contact your primary physician immediately if you suspect that you have an asbestos-related disease so that he or she can perform a routine physical and review your medical history. During your initial medical history review, it is very important to mention where you were employed and your previous occupation(s). This will better assist your doctor with regard to necessary procedures and medical tests to determine your condition.
To determine abnormalities such as pleural thickening or fluid build-up, a chest x-ray, CT scan or MRI may be necessary. A fluid sample may be taken and sent to a lab for further testing if fluid is present in the lung, heart area or abdominal region. Additionally, tissue samples or a biopsy of the affected area may be required to determine if mesothelioma cells are present.
If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, it is important that you contact us immediately regarding your legal rights.
